Wildlife & Walks in Dorset

Explore our unspoilt grounds, there may be cattle or sheep grazing the pastures. Hunt for sloes, wild damsons or hazelnuts in the hedgerows, harvest blackberries and enjoy the abundance of wildlife. Rabbits galore, buzzards that soar the thermals above the valley, ducks that dive, listen for the woodpeckers and watch the tame geese who march to the lakes on their daily routine!

Julia Bradbury ITV Best Walks With A View – The Dorset The Golden Cap Walk  Our stomping ground. Enjoyed the programme very much and we knew everyone Julia talked too, brilliant and well done all. You never know who you’re going to meet up with when walking our hills.

Then you’ll be in need of refreshment! Try our local Pub, the Ilchester Arms, in the village of Symondsbury and a 15 minute walk from the farm. Lovely traditional thatched pub with garden where you can enjoy a local pint, good food, a huge open fire in the winter and a very warm welcome!

Do you love donkeys?  then you’ll love walking with them! Walk with Chris and his friendly donkeys along the bridleways and back waters around historic Beaminster, stopping for a picnic or pub lunch along way! donkeywalkingindorset

A recommendation:

We arrived at Highway Farm soaked to the bone but were met with a very warm welcome. Pauline soon had our gear out to dry including putting our boots on the aga which meant they were dry and warm the next day. Highway Farm is easy to reach from the coast path and the Jurassic Coast bus runs past the front door making it an ideal base for walking the south coast path. Thanks again for looking after us.
