  • Highway Farm and Ganders cottage is a spacious modern farmhouse built with care and character. We have wonderful views from every aspect and large patio doors lead from the B&B guest lounge and the cottage lounge to extensive lawned gardens overlooking two coarse fishing lakes.


  • We are easy to find just off the A35 on the south side and set back 100m the road in a large garden setting surrounded with wonderful countryside.
  • The nearest shop is the Spar in Chideock , 1 mile, or Morrisons which is 2 miles. Bridport Market days are on Wednesdays and Saturdays, it’s a 35 minutes to the town.
  • The bus stops outside our entrance when heading west. The Jurassic Coastal bus X53 and No.31 pass by every 2 hours. (Stop is called The Old London Inn.)
  • The nearest railway stations are Axminster, approximately 12 miles away and Dorchester, 16 miles. Taxis are usually available at the station but we can book one for you in advance if required. Also there is Car Hire available at Dorchester Station.
  • There are several local taxi companies; we can make bookings in advance for you.
  • We have 2 dogs and 1 cat, plus chickens, geese. We regret that we are unable to accommodate any pets.
  • Brochures and menus can be provided in large print if required. We do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.

Arrival and Car Parking

  • We arrange to be here to welcome you between 4.30pm and 5.30pm
  • Please advise if you wish to arrive at a different time or are delayed.
  • To ensure your accommodation is ready we ask that guests do not normally arrive before 4.30pm. Earlier arrival may, however, be possible by arrangement.
  • There is ample parking on a level gravelled parking area outside the front of the house.
  • Please park in the marked parking bays. Parking for Ganders cottage is the area outside of the cottage front door to the side of the property.
  • We are very happy to assist with luggage, please ask.
B&B Guest Accommodation – Public Areas
  • There is a large flat paved entrance area and one step 7” (18cm) into the hallway. Front door width is 2’6” (80cm) and is hinged to the right.
  • Other door widths 2’4” (75cm).
  • A wide wooden-floored hallway leads into the guest lounge.
  • Guest toilet in hall.
  • There are 14 carpeted stairs, (8” (20cm) deep, with a handrail on right leading to the bedrooms. Width of staircase 2’7” (79cm).
  • We have 3 en-suite spacious bedrooms on the first floor, see Bedrooms section for more information.
  • There is doubled glazing and central heating throughout.
  • FIRST AID KIT is available to guests and located in the under-stairs cupboard.
  • FIRE EMERGENCY. Please take time to read the fire action signs on the bedroom doors and in the Room Information Browsers.
  • GARDEN- patio windows lead out from the guest lounge to the large lawned gardens. We are south-facing with stunning views of the lakes and there is seating for your enjoyment. CARE- There is an unfenced border to the guest lawn which has a steep drop.

B&B Lounge/Dining Room

  • Guests are welcome to use this room at any time.
  • It has a large comfy sofa, other chairs, a very large dining table and a smaller table with chairs, so we can accommodate all sizes of groups.
  • The lounge is carpeted and has an open fire during cold weather.
  • A large selection of local information, maps, magazines, books and board games are available for guests to borrow in the lounge.
  • Breakfast and evening meals are served in the dining room.


  • The bedrooms are carpeted throughout.
  • There are en suite facilities in all the rooms.
  • Bedrooms are centrally heated and there is also an electric heater in each room and additional blankets.
  • Tea and coffee facilities are provided, local biscuits and fresh milk is available from the fridge on the landing. The tap water is drinkable.
  • We also provide a music centre/radio alarm clock, hair dryer, torch, and shoe cleaning pads, shampoo, shower gel, and toothbrushes, if you forget!
  • Our beds are made with duvets and the pillows are both synthetic and feather.
  • Rooms have wardrobe, chest of drawers, dressing table in each room and extra seating.
  • There is a folder in each bedroom containing further information about the house and grounds, local eating places, ideas and details of emergency contacts including doctors and hospitals.
  • A guest notice board on landing contains lots more local information and what’s on.
  • Iron and ironing board available, please ask.

Ganders Cottage


  • There is space to park right outside of the cottage door.
  • We are very happy to assist with luggage.
  • One paved slab 3’ (93cm) wide and 4” (10cm) high and the step into the cottage is 8” (20cm).

Lounge/Dining/kitchen area

  • It has a comfy sofa and 2 armchairs, a dining table and 4 chairs.
  • Full kitchen, very well equipped. Dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, cooker/hob.
  • Plus television/DVD/video/radio/CD player.
  • Wooden flooring throughout
  • A large selection of local information, maps, magazines, books, videos, Cd’s, DVD’s, toys and board games are available.
  • Gas central heating, can be adjusted by guests.
  • There is a folder containing information about the house and grounds, and details of emergency contacts including doctors and hospitals.
  • A guest notice board contains lots of local information and what’s on.
  • Iron and ironing board available
  • Stairs x12, 8” (20cm) deep, lead from the lounge to the first floor bedroom.
  • Double patio doors access the garden, 3’5” (104cm) wide. There are 2 steps, the first step is 7” (18cm) deep and second step 5” (13cm) deep.


  • The bedrooms are carpeted throughout.
  • One ground floor bedroom, one on the first floor.
  • There are en suite facilities in both bedrooms.
  • Bedrooms are centrally heated and there are additional blankets.
  • Our beds are made up with duvets, and the pillows are both feather and synthetic.
  • Bedrooms have wardrobe/hanging space.

Ganders garden

  • We have a large garden with lawns and flowerbeds.
  • Guests are very welcome to enjoy our garden and views at all times.
  • Access to the garden is via a patio doors in lounge.
  • There is one step of 7” (18cm) into the garden.
  • There is a patio outside where we serve breakfast weather permitting.
  • Sun loungers, rattan garden table and chairs
  • Gander’s cottage has a safe fenced garden with a summerhouse,
  • Gas BBQ and games.

Additional Information

  • Access to the fishing lakes is via the driveway and parking by the barn. Go down the field 100m approx, this is a steep descend, care should be taken.
  • The lakes area and fishing standings can be slippery. Lifebuoys supplied on both lakes.
  • Children are the responsibility of their parents or guardians at all times.
  • Do not leave litter around the grounds.
  • Please shut the gates.
  • No smoking in the house but you may smoke in the garden. Please request an ashtray.
  • We are happy to cater for special diets or any particular likes or dislikes. Please advise us of these before your arrival.
  • Mobile phone reception is generally good but in some of the surrounding area there is no signal.
  • Free Wi-Fi internet access available please ask for password.
