Fossil Fest. Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast, Dorset.

Lyme Regis is West Dorset’s ‘pearl’, well known and well loved by all.
It’s quaint, quirky, historic, famous for fossils, fishing and seafood..and shops…and its steep!

local beachesCome to Lyme and Be Guided, nothing like some of insider info and knowledge from the locals…..you can join summertime history tours with an expert, scary back street ghost tours, mackerel fishing boat tours, fossil finding tours and walking tours that follow in the famous footsteps of  the famous ladies….Jane Austen, Mary Anning and The French Lieutenant Woman.

Lyme Regis loves a festival….

Festivals and celebrations through the year at Lyme. Lyme Folk Fesitval, Lyme Beer Festival, Lyme Jazz Festival, Lyme Fossil Festival, Lyme Guitar Festival, Regatta week for the RNLI, Lyme Carnival, Lyme Candles on the Cobb and the next festival is the Fossil Festival… this weekend!
And good news, the amazing Red Arrows will be gracing the skies of Lyme Bay again  during Lifeboat week!

Lyme boating, Lyme fisherfolk, Lyme Lifeboat, Lyme Sailing Club, Lyme Golf Club, Lyme Bowling Club and lots of outdoors activities for both locals and visitors to Lyme.

Lyme Regis-4Lyme Regis has a sandy beach, a pebbly beach and a beautiful harbour skirted by the protective arms of the famous Cobb walls and busy with boats. You can swim in the sea, dive in the deep reefs, long or short day sea fishing day trips.

Fine Fresh Local Food and a plethora of eating houses, fishy dishes, bakeries, coffee shops and tea rooms. Fancy a cream tea with Dorset clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam….I do! Or the savour the delights of freshly caught fish, straight out of the Lyme Bay, delicious lightly pan-fried, mackerel, sea bass, sole…yum. Lyme is the place where you can explore the sea front restaurants, fish and chips kiosks, deli’s, take always and back streets cafes and has it’s own micro brewery and wine store….cheers!

Shopping in Lyme is fun too, something different, maybe vintage or hand crafted, galleries, spend time in Lyme Museum, the Aquarium, and there are lots of fossils shops where you can buy a fossil to take home if you can’t find one on the beach! And if you have time check out the Regent Cinema and the Marine Threate for lots of exciting entertainment.

I love the high seas, angry winds and wild winter waves that give way to glassy ocean days with perfect blue skies and warm sunshine washing your face…..roll on summer please!

Lovely Lyme….whatever the season whatever the weather it’s a great place to visit.
